Part-Time Director of Children’s Ministry – Advent Scuffletown

General Profile of the Role
The Director of Children’s Ministry for Advent Scuffletown will be responsible for ministries for all children from birth through 5th grade at our Scuffletown campus, while simultaneously equipping parents to be the primary faith influence in their children’s lives. This role will be the primary leader of all things kids at the Scuffletown Campus, but they will work in conjunction with the vision and plans for Advent Kids at our main campus. A successful candidate must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrate leadership skills with a history of leading growing ministries. Because we are a church plant, this person should be passionate about building relationships within our congregation and the community, willing to think outside the box, and skillful at forming young disciples. In addition, they must be able to plan and organize programming and community events, recruit volunteers, and be able to manage and delegate responsibilities within the children’s ministry team. The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment with church staff at all campuses, parents, and other congregants. Church plants are exciting in that they allow for creativity and innovation, but flexibility is also a must, and at times this role could include other duties as assigned by the Campus Pastor.

Part of the mission of Advent Kids is helping kids and families grow in faith together. Advent Scuffletown is seeking to make disciples in the Scuffletown Road community, with a focus on children and families. As we prepare to launch weekly worship in the next year, the majority of our events and connections center around families with young children. This person will work closely with our Campus Pastor to plan events and make connections with those families, as well as work with the Director of Children’s Ministry at the Five Forks campus, so they can be prepared to replicate Advent Kids in a new location.

Position Structure and Compensation
Part-time, salaried position with an understood commitment of 15-20 hours per week, on average. There is potential for the position to grow as the church grows.

Position Accountability
Guidance for this position will be offered by the Advent Scuffletown Campus Pastor

A college degree in education or ministry is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered. The individual should have the desire and ability to be creative, while also being able to work well in a team environment. The candidate should have strong knowledge and be able to articulate their experience with child development and family dynamics.

About our Church
The first campus of Advent United Methodist Church was established in 1987, and is one of the largest United Methodist Churches in South Carolina. Advent Scuffletown is a new campus of AUMC, that will begin worship in a school about 6 miles from the original campus. They have already begun hosting events in the target community, and plan to launch weekly worship within the next year. Advent is a dynamic and growing congregation, situation in the Five Forks community in Greenville, SC, which has been recognized as one of the top areas within the United States for growth and quality of life.
