Caregiver Support Group Meeting

Caregiver Support Group

The Greenville Hospital System has coaches for Alzheimer/dementia caregivers! Please join us to learn more about the REACH (Resources to Enhance Caregiver Health) program.

The Caregiver Support Group meets again on Thursday, June 8th at 2:00 pm in Rm. 114 of the Education Building.

The group is designed to provide caregivers with emotional, educational and social support. All caregivers, regardless of the diagnosis or level of disability of your loved one are welcome. You are encouraged to make time to care for yourself. Join us and learn from the experiences of others. This is where you can learn about available resources, share your troubles and connect with others who are going through the same experiences. You are not alone! If you can’t leave your loved one alone because of a Dementia or Alzheimer’s diagnosis, you can call the Alzheimer’s Association IN ADVANCE at 800-272-3900 to learn how to access an in-home sitter service at no cost to you.

Not sure if a support group is right for you? You are invited to come and ‘check us out’ so you can decide for yourself! For information, contact Brenda Burnham at [email protected]

Backpack Blessing Update

Advent Backpack Blessings Update

The Advent Backpack Blessings team completes another successful year having made over 30 deliveries to the 5 schools for the 188 children we serve. Thank you to the 20 – 25 volunteers who come weekly to pack and deliver. We appreciate the continued support of the Advent staff and the Missions Committee for our program. Most of all, we appreciate the generosity of members of Advent and outside partners who regularly donate food and funding. We begin again in the Fall and look forward to continue serving our community through this outreach. Thank you!

Volunteers Needed for Children’s Worship This Summer

Just a reminder that there is no Sunday School for the summer! However, starting June 11th, we will be offering Children’s Worship at all three worship service June  18th, 25th, July 9th, 16th and 23rd. We will also offer it August 20th and 27th. Children ages 3 through 7 are invited!

Middle School Mission Trip

This is a wonderful opportunity for rising 7th grade-rising 9th grade students (current middle schoolers)  to stretch beyond themselves to serve others.  We will be going to Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, SC on July 10-12.  We will be serving them through yard work, painting, updating their cottages, and other needs around the facility!  In addition, the Advent students and chaperones will enjoy worship/Bible study together, team building and games! Epworth has graciously offered us a place to stay during our trip!  One third of the cost of the trip will go towards transportation and food and the other two thirds will go towards supplies for the work will will be doing.  We will be leaving Advent on July 10 in the morning (Aproximately 8am) to get to Epworth and start working by 12:00pm.  We will leave Epworth on July 20 by Noon and be back to Advent mid-afternoon.

The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, May 31, 2017. However, if you sign up and pay before April 30, the registration fee is $75 per person and is $100 after April 30.

Advent United Methodist Church is hosting Advent HOOPS basketball camp for completed K5-5th grade students this summer!
